About the Department of Medical Technology

   Most advanced technologies and computerized systems have already been introduced and are now being used in Medical Technology. The medical technologists are responsible for undertaking a wide variety of laboratory tests, which physicians increasingly rely upon for diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of diseases. Medical technologists also must understand both laboratory procedures and the role of laboratory technology in medical diagnosis and care.
    The Department of Medical Technology is built upon the broad foundations of scientific knowledge. The knowledge and techniques to be acquired in this department are essential and useful not only for medical laboratory tests and environmental hygiene monitoring, but also for the research and development of basic medicine and laboratory medicine as well as applied research of life sciences.



History of the Department of Medical Technology

1963.  School for Clinical Laboratory Technologist of Niigata University was established.

1972. The school name was changed to University School for Medical Laboratory Technologist of Niigata University．(to 1974)

1974. College of Biomedical Technology, Niigata University was established. (to 2003)

1999. Department of Medical Technology, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Niigata University  was established.

2003. Area of Medical Technology, Niigata University Graduate School of Health Sciences was established.
