Niigata is located in the central part of Honshu, the main one of the four islands of Japan. Niigata has a long history and has grown into the largest city on the Sea of Japan coast of Honshu, with a population of 800,000. The city is very well connected to Tokyo, Osaka and other major cities of Japan, and has direct connections to China, Korea and Russia.
Niigata is called the “Water Capital” of Japan, as two of the largest rivers in Japan run through the heart of this city before flowing into the Sea of Japan. Surrounded by abundant nature, Niigata is known for its delicious rice, sake and fresh seafood.
